Vodafone UK has announced the pricing schedule for its new ‘Gigafast Broadband’ service, which will offer downlink speeds of up to 900Mbps, while also revealing the timeframe for launch. In a press release the operator confirmed that it is bringing four tariffs to market, with the entry-level service providing users with symmetrical speeds of up to 100Mbps for GBP28 (USD36) per month and the top-tier plan offering data rates of up to 900Mbps for GBP48 per month. In addition, Vodafone UK confirmed that customers that are already signed up to one of its mobile services can benefit from a GBP5 monthly discount when signing up for Gigafast Broadband.
Alongside the pricing information, Vodafone UK also confirmed that it expects the first installation of the new fixed broadband service to begin from 8 October, with pre-orders going live from 14 September. Initially, the fibre-based connectivity will only be available to some 3,700 premises in Milton Keynes – following a successful pilot scheme in that location over the summer. Looking ahead, the operator has said it expects ‘almost every home in the city’ to have access to the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network by 2020. In terms of expanding coverage beyond Milton Keynes, Vodafone UK noted that Aberdeen and Peterborough are expected to gain access to the fibre offerings ‘later this year’, with Coventry, Edinburgh, Huddersfield and Stirling scheduled to come online in early 2019.
Commenting on the development, Vodafone UK chief executive Nick Jeffery said: ‘Starting in Milton Keynes, we are helping people break free from the shackles of their old, copper-based broadband. With Gigafast Broadband, Vodafone is investing in best-in-class infrastructure for the UK, equipping the nation for the future.’
