CityFibre contracts Calix for SDA operating system deployment

7 Sep 2018

UK-based pure fibre provider CityFibre has entered into a strategic partnership with Calix under which the latter will deploy its Software Defined Access (SDA) operating system (OS) across CityFibre’s infrastructure. In a press release regarding the development, the telco claimed that the implementation of Calix’s AXOS platform will see it ‘emerge as the UK’s only advanced-intelligence, wholesale infrastructure company, capable of delivering parallel 10Gbp connections to every home and business, with further potential for speeds of up to 100 Gbps’. Deploying the OS will reportedly enable CityFibre to leverage technologies like NG-PON2 and enable automation of manual functions across the network, while also allowing it to reduce network operating complexity and costs while rolling out future services at greater speeds.
