GTCR, Mega Broadband acquire Northland Communications

US private equity firm GTCR has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Northland Communications through its portfolio company Mega Broadband Investments (MBI). MBI – a partnership with Phil Spencer, the former CEO of Rural Broadband Investments (RBI) – was formed in October 2017, with a view to acquiring rural broadband assets. The deal represents a return to the telecoms space for GTCR, which sold cableco NewWave Communications to Cable ONE for USD735 million in May 2017.

Founded in 1981, and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Northland provides broadband, pay-TV and voice services to residential and business subscribers in rural markets in Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
