Globe to pump in extra USD100m to meet data demand

With 3G and 4G data traffic having surged 140% in the first six months of this year, Globe Telecom of the Philippines says it is upping its 2018 CAPEX by USD100 million to meet demand for internet services and sustain profit growth. In a statement the CEO of Ayala-led Globe, Ernest Cu, confirmed: ‘With data traffic continuing to be robust, we are accelerating our CAPEX guidance by USD100 million this year to further develop our network infrastructure.’ The cellco, which reported a 9% increase in mobile subscribers to 65.1 million during the period, noted that full-year CAPEX will rise to USD950 million from the original USD850 million; the majority will be directed toward fixed and mobile networks, including 4G and the planned rollout of 5G technology by mid-2019.
