MTS revenue benefits from improved Russian competitive environment

In the second quarter of 2018 Russian telecoms group Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) reported that its total revenue increased 7.0% year-on-year to RUB114.3 billion (USD1.7 billion) while quarterly operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) grew 22.5% to RUB53.9 billion, including the impact of new IFRS standards. On a like-for-like basis, OIBDA grew 5.1% y-o-y. Operating profit was RUB27.6 billion in 2Q18 (2Q17: RUB23.9 billion), and three-month net profit reached RUB14.3 billion (2Q17: RUB14.7 billion).

MTS reported positive trends in each of its operating markets – Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Belarus – with Russian mobile service revenue climbing to RUB78.4 billion in April-June 2018 compared to RUB75.1 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company added: ‘The Russian competitive environment improved during the reporting period and we benefited from [a] better pricing environment, growing data consumption and encouraging sales of goods.’
