Axtel, one of Mexico’s largest alternative telecoms operators, is close to selling its consumer business to domestic rival Bestel, Milenio.com reports, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. According to the article, Axtel will offload its ‘X-tremo’-branded fibre services but retain its corporate unit. Axtel has been exploring a number of strategic options – including a potential sale – since October 2017.
TeleGeography notes that Bestel is co-owned by Izzi Telecom and Grupo Televisa. The telco currently provides voice, data and managed services to domestic and international carriers, and to the enterprise, corporate, and government segments in Mexico.
