Beltelecom signs up two millionth GPON fibre customer

6 Aug 2018

Belarusian state-backed operator Beltelecom has announced reaching two million subscribers on its GPON direct fibre broadband access network. Beltelecom began deploying the GPON network in 2011, attracting one million GPON-based customers by end-2016 and reaching the 1.5 million subscriber mark in September 2017, before hitting the latest milestone in the first week of August 2018. The telco is continuing its programme of replacing copper lines with fibre-optics, giving users access to higher broadband internet speeds (currently offered at up to 100Mbps/50Mbps down/upload), interactive IPTV and unlimited on-net fixed voice calling.
