Croatian fixed and mobile operator Hrvatski Telekom (HT) says it has conducted the country’s first test of 5G technology on an operational network in real-world conditions. The test network operating in the 3.5GHz spectrum band was implemented with a pre-installed 5G system, using Ericsson’s 5G network devices. Since the start of this year HT says it has been modernising its radio access and transport networks to support future 5G services as part of an upgrade project which is due to run until the end of 2019.
‘HT sees the commercial implementation of the 5G network around the year 2020, when customers will have added value in performances compared to the 4G network. A full swing with an entire range of functionalities is expected in the period between 2025 and 2030,’ said Boris Drilo, CTIO at HT.
