Vodacom South Africa has partnered with Nokia to demonstrate ‘5G-powered experiences’ at the Vodacom Durban July horse racing event on 7 July. The cellco, which will utilise a Nokia Airscale 5G base station, and a 100MHz block of its own spectrum in the 28GHz band, intends to demonstrate two different virtual reality (VR) functions at the event: 360 degree cameras allowing guests in the hospitality suite to witness the conclusion of each race as if they were on the finishing line; and a VR penalty shoot-out.
