Telefonica considering fibre-optic asset sale, report says

6 Jul 2018

Telefonica is understood to be considering the sale of part of its fibre-optic network in Spain, as it looks to lower debt and boost its declining stock market value. Sources cited by Spanish news site El Confidencial claim that the company’s board of directors has proposed selling part of the company’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network – which covers around 20 million Spanish homes – in order to curb the recent slump in its stock market value, which has dropped 9% this year. The report claims that the group’s total value has plummeted 25.7% since Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete was appointed as chairman in March 2016.
