SFR extends 5G trials to Toulouse, Nantes

5 Jul 2018

French mobile operator SFR has revealed that it has extended its ongoing 3.5GHz 5G trials to Toulouse and Nantes, following approval from the Authority of Regulation for Electronic Communications and Posts (Autorite de Regulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes, Arcep).

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, SFR conducted what it claimed was ‘the first 5G test in real-life situation’ on 23 May, at its lab in Velizy. The telco achieved peak speeds of 1.6Gbps via a pre-commercial terminal using frequencies in the 3.5GHz band. SFR notes that it is preparing to equip its first 5G cities in 2019, before a planned commercial launch in 2020.
