Entel and Ericsson complete 24Gbps 5G trial on 28GHz band

3 Jul 2018

Entel Chile and vendor partner Ericsson have achieved peak data transfer rates of more than 24Gbps during a 5G test at the University of Chile in Santiago, Estrategia reports. The trial used spectrum in the 28GHz band and combined an array of advanced technologies, including: massive MIMO, massive beamforming, distributed MIMO, multi-user MIMO, and beam tracking. Commenting on the trial and the future applications for 5G technologies, Ericsson’s President of South America Nicolas Brancoli said: ‘This technological leap will open possibilities that it is not yet possible to fully dimension. Customers will be able to enjoy new applications, such as augmented reality and 4K video streaming, and industries will benefit from innovative applications of IoT, such as intelligent transport and remote medical assistance … We hope that the 5G technology will be launched on the market in 2019 worldwide, and this test is another step to prepare Chile for the next generation of mobile technology.’
