25 Jun 2018

Italian ISP Fastweb and Chinese equipment vendor Huawei have announced the completion of an optical network upgrade contract. Huawei has deployed Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) technology covering more than 2,300km between Milan and southern Sicily, providing 200Gbps capabilities with full resiliency and service continuity. The project marks the end of an upgrade contract begun in September 2017, when Fastweb launched a Flexible Next Generation Optical Network in partnership with Huawei, with a start-up capacity of 2Tbps and covering more than 2,000km nationwide.
