Responsibility for Digital Agenda changes following regulatory reshuffle

11 Jun 2018

The responsibility for implementing Spain’s Digital Agenda has reportedly been transferred away from the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda (Ministerio de Energia, Turismo y Agenda Digital, MINETAD) and handed to the Ministry of Economy and Enterprise (Ministerio de Economia y Empresa). The decision represents one of the first key decisions by the new Sanchez administration.

Incumbent Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy was forced out of office by a no-confidence vote in parliament on 1 June 2018. The opposition said he had failed to take responsibility for his party’s involvement in a corruption scandal. He was succeeded by Pedro Sanchez from the Spanish Socialist Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol, PSOE) – the party that triggered the no-confidence vote.
