Mobile network operator (MNO) Alpha Telecom Mali, which launched commercial services under the Telecel banner in December 2017, has extended its network footprint to Sikasso. With the MNO having initially begun operations with coverage of the capital Bamako-only, Agence Ecofin reports that the cellco has since expanded its operational footprint to offer services in Sikasso, the country’s second most populous city, effective 1 June. Souleymane Diallo, Telecel’s general manager, was cited as saying that the network development was ‘only the first step in [the operator’s] national expansion plan’. The report also claims that Alpha Telecom Mali has already signed up almost 500,000 subscribers since entering the market.
