Cyta announces ‘significant investment’ in fixed infrastructure

29 May 2018

Cyta has announced its strategic decision to proceed with a ‘significant investment’ in a major project to deploy NGN infrastructure throughout all of Cyprus. The company has claimed that the ten-year project is the ‘largest investment made so far in telecoms in Cyprus’, and will include the development of a fibre-optic network in major urban areas and significant investment in upgrading the copper infrastructure in rural areas using Vectoring technology. Cyta’s Deputy CEO Michalis Achilleos said: ‘Making use of modern infrastructure to create a digital economy will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy, creating new jobs and, more broadly, to growth. In particular, it is worth mentioning that an 8%-10% increase in broadband can increase a country’s GDP by up to 1.5%, which is a major benefit for the economy.’
