The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has warned mobile network operator (MNO) Africell that it faces the suspension of its operating licence if it does not comply with regulations forcing it to stop the sale of SIM cards via unauthorised street vendors. Under SIM registration laws, operators must ensure that all SIM cards are only sold by legitimate retailers with facilities for verifying national ID cards. A report from The Monitor says the MNO has been given 60 days to respond to the UCC’s accusations.
