G2G Clarity IT Solutions to be first reseller of Ethio Telecom’s fixed broadband services

18 May 2018

A first tentative step towards the liberalisation of Ethiopia’s fixed broadband sector is set to be taken, with Ethiopian business newspaper Addisfortune reporting that the government has agreed a deal under which a local private company will resell Ethio Telecom’s services. It is understood that G2G Clarity IT Solutions reached an agreement to resell the fixed line incumbent’s internet services in January 2018, though an official announcement of the deal was only made at an event last week. Following confirmation of the partnership, Abdurahim Ahmed, corporate communications officer at state-owned Ethio Telecom, was cited as saying: ‘The main target of outsourcing the service is getting more clients.’

To provide services to consumers, G2G Clarity will bulk purchase internet packages from Ethio Telecom and resell them to consumers, and while it has a national licence, it will reportedly begin by offering resold services in just three areas of the capital, namely CMC, Bole and Hayahult.
