Airtel expands 4G to Abuja

8 May 2018

Airtel Nigeria, the country’s third largest mobile operator by subscribers, has expanded its LTE network to the city of Abuja. The move follows on from the commercial launch of the 4G service in Ibadan in February. The Bharti Airtel-owned cellco’s network utilises the 1800MHz frequency band. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that Airtel signed an agreement with Chinese equipment vendor ZTE for the supply of a 4G network last year, after its three main rivals MTN, Globacom and 9mobile launched LTE services in the second half of 2016.
