Mexico City-based Grupo Televisa, which claims to be the largest media company by market capitalisation in the Spanish-speaking world, is considering a spin-off of its domestic cable businesses, Reuters reports. The assessment is ongoing, executives revealed during a conference call with analysts, with a final decision expected later this year.

TeleGeography notes that Televisa is a major player in the Mexican telecoms sector via its ownership of Izzi Telecom, Cablevision (TVI), Cablecom, Cablemas and Telecable. The cablecos’ collective footprint spans Mexico City, Monterrey, Tijuana, Zapopan, Ciudad Juarez, Queretaro, Merida, Mexicali, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, and a number of other major cities.
