MegaFon completes Neosprint 3.5GHz takeover

1 May 2018

Russian cellco MegaFon has completed a previously announced deal to acquire Neosprint, a holder of 5G-suitable wireless spectrum in Moscow, for around RUB720 million (USD11.5 million), Telecom Daily writes. As reported earlier this month by CommsUpdate, MegaFon’s board approved the acquisition of 100% of Neosprint, which owns spectrum in the 3.4GHz-3.6GHz band in the capital. MegaFon said in a press release that it believes the 3.4GHz-3.6GHz band will be the most likely used for the early deployment of 5G networks. The firm says it plans to use the spectrum in June to deploy a pilot 5G network in Moscow stadiums hosting the FIFA World Cup.
