Vodafone Qatar has inked an agreement to deploy advanced fixed and mobile networks serving the country’s newest planned city, the USD45 billion Lusail City development. The deal signed with Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company will see Vodafone build an extensive high speed fibre triple-play network supporting access speeds of up to 1Gbps, across an area spanning 38 square kilometres, whilst the operator says the new city’s businesses will gain access to a wide range of enterprise services including solutions such as smart security, asset tracking and smart metering. It will also deploy comprehensive outdoor and indoor mobile coverage.
Vodafone Qatar CEO Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdullah Al-Thani said: ‘We will be combining broadband internet access, television and telephone with wireless services and offering smart services and new applications that will ensure Lusail is one of the most advanced cities in the world.’ Lusail City includes four exclusive islands and 19 multipurpose residential, mixed use, entertainment and commercial districts; it is envisaged to grow to an eventual population of 450,000.
