RATEL alters rules on CLL services

23 Apr 2018

Serbian telecoms watchdog the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Regulatorna agencija za elektronske komunikacije i postanske usluge, RATEL) has revised the rules for providing electronic communications services at a fixed location via public mobile networks (also referred to as Cellular Local Loop, CLL). The technology is intended to help provide access in remote areas and underserved communities. Under the previous regulations CLL services could be employed in locations with up to 1,500 residents, but RATEL notes that use of the option remained limited and it received requests from operators to reconsider the restrictions. As such, RATEL began a public consultation on the matter from 28 December 2017. Under the revised rules, operators will be allowed to provide CLL services in locations with up to 3,000 residents. The new regulations will come into force on 4 May 2018.
