Argentina is scheduled to witness the arrival of fixed number portability (FNP) in July this year, local news agency Clarin has reported. The service will take effect on 11 July in the most populated cities in the country, namely: Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario and La Plata. The schedule will then see FNP introduced in the remainder of the country’s provincial capitals – alongside Mar del Plata, Bahia Blanca and Rio Cuarto – by end-2018. Going forward, FNP will go live in all areas with more than 100,000 inhabitants by July 2019. Finally, the service will be extended to all other areas of the country that are home to two or more fixed line providers by end-December 2019.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, mobile number portability (MNP) was introduced back in March 2012 following a series of delays.
