Indosat Ooredoo to ramp up 4G expansion outside Java

19 Apr 2018

Mobile network operator (MNO) Indosat Ooredoo has revealed plans to aggressively ramp up its 4G network rollout outside Java, as it looks to sustain revenue growth in FY 2018. Speaking to reporters in Bandar Lampung this week, President and CEO Joy Wahjudi said that while the MNO must ensure it is present across 100% of the city, it needs to establish 4G zones in other areas too. As such it has already established a pilot rollout in Lampung, while later this year it is targeting the rollout of LTE services in one region in Sumatra, two areas in Sulawesi, and one in Kalimantan. While the official would not be drawn on providing details on the specific territories it will target – for fear of tipping off its rivals – Joy said the MNO will commit IDR8 trillion (USD581.2 million) this year, of which 80% will be spent to develop the network and strengthen its service proposition.
