Japanese fixed broadband and mobile operator KDDI Corp has selected DASAN Zhone Solutions (DZS) to offer 10Gbps Ethernet Passive Optical Network (10G-EPON) services across the country, Telecomlead reports. The equipment maker’s 10G-EPON technology – which is reported to be standardised in IEEE 802.3 – is being used across the globe to build out symmetrical ultra-high speed wired internet networks. It says it hopes to develop a strong business in Japan over the next three years as the country’s telcos gear up network investments ahead of the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games in 2020. Under its deal with KDDI, California-based DZS will supply its products through system integrator and domestic sales agent Kyocera Communication Systems (KCCS), a KDDI affiliate.
