Orange reportedly in talks to acquire cableco AKTA

4 Apr 2018

Orange Romania is reportedly in talks to acquire one of the largest cable operators in the country Digital Cable Systems (AKTA) according to the Ziarul Financiar (ZF). Sources familiar with the matter told ZF that the transaction could reach between EUR150 million-EUR200 million (USD184.3 million-USD245.8 million) and one of the sources is quoted as saying: ‘The prospect of market consolidation through the acquisition of UPC Romania by Vodafone and the training of a new player with fixed mobile operations has given new momentum to AKTA’s takeover talks. Orange is one of the companies in AKTA’s takeover talks and perhaps even the most determined to complete it because it does not have fixed retail operations on its own network.’

Orange has yet to comment on the matter, but the acquisition of AKTA would bring Orange a fixed network that reaches the homes of customers in more than 30 counties, with approximately 700,000 cable TV, internet and fixed telephony subscriptions.
