India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has extended the time limit for reverifying mobile numbers through the government’s Aadhaar national ID system until the Supreme Court issues a ruling on the matter. The apex court is considering the validity of mandatory linking of Aadhaar for receipt of various services and government welfare schemes. The Supreme Court had previously instructed the DoT to ensure that all mobile numbers are verified via Aadhaar by 6 February 2018, and later extending that deadline until 31 March.
