Vietnamese telecoms operator Viettel is reportedly interested in partnering with the Philippines’ would-be third player, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). DICT officer-in-charge Eliseo Rio Jr was cited by ABS-CBN as saying: ‘They expressed their interest when they called at my office last week.’ The DICT and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) are currently working on finalising the selection process for the new operator which will compete with PLDT and Globe Telecom. The government has set up a deadline of 24 May for bid submissions for the third concession.
