Mobile network operator (MNO) XL Axiata says that as part of its ongoing network expansion programme, it has extended its footprint to cover the interior of Sumbawa, in West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB). IndoTelko reports that since January 2018 the MNO has been operational in more than 40 locations in four provinces as part of its universal service obligation (USO), including deployment of six base transceiver stations (BTS) in remote regions of NTB: Kawuwu Village in Palibela sub-district; Talonang Baru Village in Sekongkang District; Lebangkar, Ranan and Lawin villages in Ropang Kecapatan; and Lebin Village in Leangguar. Currently, XL Axiata claims to have more than 2.7 million customers in NTB, supported by over 1,700 BTS, of which about 20% are 4G-capable. Nationally, at the end of 2017 XL Axiata’s mobile network throughout Indonesia was supported by more than 100,000 BTS – 65% 3G and 4G, and 35% 2G BTS.
