Airtel, Vodafone India expand VoLTE

12 Mar 2018

Indian mobile market leader Bharti Airtel has expanded its VoLTE services to Kolkata, enabling customers across the city to access HD quality voice calls with a faster call set up time and simultaneous 4G internet connection. Airtel launched its first VoLTE services in Mumbai in September 2017 before expansion to Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, with VoLTE scheduled to go ‘national’ by the end of this month. The Economic Times reports that over 100 4G smartphone models are now compatible with Airtel VoLTE.

Vodafone India has also expanded its VoLTE service footprint, to several cities in Haryana state in northern India, having previously launched the service in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Gujarat and Maharashtra & Goa. Vodafone aims to continue expanding VoLTE across the country in phases over the next few months.

Airtel and Vodafone are among the cellcos playing catch-up with newcomer Jio, which for several months was the sole VoLTE operator in India.
