Jio expanding network coverage beyond 90% with Samsung

2 Mar 2018

India’s Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has enlisted Samsung to carry out its ‘Infill and Growth (I&G) Project’ aimed at improving LTE mobile network capacity and coverage. The project will utilise spectrum in the 850MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands to provide indoor and outdoor coverage in dense urban areas, alongside network expansion in rural areas. Samsung issued two press releases announcing the project, the first claiming that it will expand Jio’s network to ‘99%’ of the population but the second release moderating this target to ‘over 90%’ coverage. Samsung and Jio have also embarked on the deployment of a commercial NB-IoT network.
