Sunrise books CHF505m profit for 2017

1 Mar 2018

Swiss full-service provider Sunrise has booked a 2.2% dip in revenue for the full year ended 31 December 2017, registering turnover of CHF1.85 billion (USD1.96 billion) for the period. The drop was caused by the continuing decline of its fixed line telephony services, revenue from which fell 9.6% year-on-year, and the impact of changes to mobile termination rates (MTRs) on its wireless service revenues: mobile revenues dipped by 2.6% y-o-y to CHF1.23 billion, although Sunrise claims that the figure represents growth of 0.8%, when adjusted for the MTR change. Annual EBITDA dipped by 1.1% to CHF592 million, whilst net income jumped from CHF87 million to CHF505 million, bolstered by a one-time gain of CHF420 million from the sale of the operator’s tower assets in Q3 2017.

In operational terms, Sunrise claimed a total of 2.35 million wireless customers – up from 2.33 million a year earlier – alongside 422,000 broadband lines (up 13.6% y-o-y), 214,000 IPTV subscriptions (an increase of 31.1%) and 441,000 fixed telephony accounts (up 5.8%).
