Qatari operator Ooredoo has announced mobile speeds of 2.3Gbps on its live network, with 3.5ms latency, adding the claim that it is ‘racing ahead on the path to 5G’, with 5G New Radio (NR) ‘commercial equipment suitable for business customers’. The operator also revealed that it has been issued with additional spectrum for 5G deployment in the 3.5GHz band by Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) to further a goal ‘to become the world’s first company to provide wide 5G coverage’. Waleed Al-Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar and deputy CEO of Ooredoo Group, said: ‘By providing superior speeds, we will enable organisations, cities, and countries to fully digitally transform in the era of Smart Cities and the Internet of Things. This is a major milestone in delivering on our promise to enrich people’s digital lives and allow them to enjoy and benefit from the extraordinary benefits of the internet.’
