Meszaros interested in Telenor Hungary

19 Feb 2018

Portfolio.hu reports that Hungarian holding company Konzum, backed by businessman Lorinc Meszaros – an ally of Prime Minister Viktor Orban – is interested in acquisitions in the local telecoms sector, and could potentially bid for Telenor’s Hungarian division if it goes up for sale. Konzum CEO Gellert Jaszai told InfoRadio that Telenor Hungary is a potential investment target for the company (saying ‘I can confirm that it remains appealing for us’). Telenor is thought to be mulling the sale of Central and Eastern European businesses, and the Norwegian group recently disclosed that it has received several unsolicited expressions of interest in such assets.
