Airtel switches on 4G network in Ibadan

13 Feb 2018

Airtel Nigeria, the country’s third largest mobile operator by subscribers, has announced the commercial launch of 4G LTE services in the city of Ibadan. The Bharti Airtel-owned cellco says its network, which utilises the 1800MHz band, offers downlink speeds of between 35Mbps and 40Mbps. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that Airtel signed an agreement with Chinese equipment vendor ZTE for the supply of a 4G network last year, after its three main rivals MTN, Globacom and 9mobile launched LTE services in the second half of 2016.
