2degrees 2G shuts on 15 March

Two Degrees Mobile (2degrees), New Zealand’s third-largest cellco, has confirmed it will shut down its 2G GSM network on 15 March 2018 to concentrate on providing 3G/4G mobile services. 2degrees’ CEO Stewart Sherriff said that following the company’s original shutdown warning to customers in September 2017, a ‘good proportion’ of 2G-only users have upgraded their devices. 2degrees, which is majority-owned by US-based Trilogy International Partners, stopped selling 2G-only mobile phones in 2015.
