Slovak telcos aim to cover every village

8 Feb 2018

Slovakia’s main telcos have reached an accord with the government to roll out high speed internet services to every village in the country by 2020. A report from the Slovak Spectator says that Orange Slovensko, O2 Slovakia and Slovak Telekom have committed to cover all municipalities using either fixed or wireless technologies. In 2015 a report from the National Agency for Network and Electronic Services (NASES) showed that more than 1,800 villages across the country had no broadband internet access. The government says the agreement to use private funds to expand coverage means that public money can be targeted at other projects, such as providing free Wi-Fi access in towns and villages and improving connectivity along main transport routes.
