Claro to invest USD1.2bn in Dominican Republic by 2022

8 Feb 2018

Claro Dominicana – the country’s largest mobile, broadband and wireline operator in terms of subscribers – has pledged to invest over DOP56.9 billion (USD1.2 billion) in the Dominican Republic between 2018 and 2022, as it seeks to expand and improve its wireless networks and deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology. Local site Listin Diario quotes company president Oscar Pena as commenting: ‘We reiterate our commitment to the development of telecommunications in the Dominican Republic.’

TeleGeography notes that the announcement comes hot on the heels of a financial commitment by chief rival Altice Dominicana, which seeks to invest USD673.1 million in network improvements during the same time frame.
