Baktelecom extends fibre reach in Baku, plans March LTE launch

29 Jan 2018

Baktelecom (formerly known as Baku Telephone Production Association, BTRIB) has announced that it has expanded its GPON fibre-optic network in the capital city Baku and surrounding areas. Azerbaijan’s second largest ISP by subscribers now covers 30,000 households with its GPON fibre network, with around 5,000 apartments already utilising this service. Baktelecom also announced that it plans to commercially launch LTE services in March, with two settlements in Baku already connected in the pilot phase of the project. Further LTE base stations will be added gradually to the network and will focus on the outskirts of the capital, where fibre-optic deployment is less accessible.
