Movistar unveils fixed-wireless broadband pilot in Mexico

25 Jan 2018

Movistar Mexico, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has staged a fixed-wireless broadband pilot project in Toluca, El Financiero reports, citing Mariano Hansen, Telefonica Mexico’s head of residential broadband. Going forward, the trials will be extended to Tijuana, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosi and Apodaca. If deemed successful, the pilot – which leverages the cellco’s existing mobile spectrum – could be launched commercially towards the end of the first quarter of 2018.
