Postal firm refuses stake in Slovakia's 4ka

24 Jan 2018

Slovakia’s state-backed postal operator Slovenska Posta says it will not be taking up an option to acquire a stake in the country’s fourth cellco, SWAN Mobile, which offers services under the ‘4ka’ brand. Slovenska Posta will continue to act as 4ka’s retail partner, however, selling SIM cards in its network of post office branches. The postal company had an option to acquire a 10% stake in the cellco for EUR1 million (USD1.3 million), with a further possibility to increase its stake to 20%. A 30% interest in 4ka was bought by an unnamed Czech investment fund in 2016, with the remainder owned by ISP SWAN, which is itself a subsidiary of DanubiaTel. SWAN recently announced that 4ka had hit the 500,000 subscriber milestone, two years and two months after its launch.
