Rostelecom receives 5G test frequencies; MTS, Beeline applications remain stalled

18 Jan 2018

Nationwide Russian telco Rostelecom has received frequencies for 5G testing within the 3.4GHz-3.8GHz band, ComNews reports. In contrast, an application for 27GHz-28GHz 5G test spectrum from mobile operator MTS has been rejected by the State Commission for Radio Frequencies (SCRF), whilst a decision on Beeline’s application for 3.4GHz-3.8GHz and 25GHz-29GHz test bands has been postponed, although the latter cellco expects to obtain approval shortly, the report adds. Earlier, rival cellco MegaFon was granted 5G test frequencies by the SCRF in July 2017, including spectrum within the 3.4GHz-3.8GHz and 24GHz-29GHz bands.

Rostelecom is permitted to use 3.4GHz-3.8GHz frequencies for 5G testing in Kazan and Innopolis (Tatarstan), St. Petersburg, Belgorod and Ivanovo regions, Kaliningrad and Svetlogorsk, Moscow, Krasnogorsk and Skolkovo.
