Competition authorities approve NextGenTel’s sale of retail mobile base to Telia

16 Jan 2018

Following the announcement in December 2017 that it had agreed to sell its retail mobile customer base to Telia Norge, NextGenTel Holding has now confirmed that the transaction has been given the green light. In a press release the Norwegian company noted that local competition authorities have approved the deal, which it said it now expects to close in June 2018.

In previously revealing the plan to sell off these subscribers, NextGenTel Holding said it had made the decision to do so after reassessing its strategy and concluding that retail mobile customers were of ‘less strategic importance for the future of the NextGenTel Group’. As a result, it struck a deal with Telia Norge valued at between NOK75 million (USD9.5 million) and NOK95 million, with the final value reported to be dependent on the number of customers that actually migrate from NextGenTel; according to the most recent official data, at end-September 2017 the telco had around 38,000 retail mobile subscribers on its books.
