Airtel employs Huawei solution to use 900MHz for GSM, UMTS and LTE

12 Jan 2018

Indian mobile market leader Bharti Airtel has begun using 900MHz spectrum across three technologies – GSM, UMTS and LTE – using Huawei’s CloudAIR solution, the Chinese vendor has confirmed in a press release. According to Huawei, the solution allows different radio access technologies to share spectrum resources dynamically via an on-demand spectrum allocation method, enabling Airtel’s 8.8MHz of 900MHz spectrum to serve GSM, UMTS and LTE simultaneously. Abhay Savargaonkar, CTO of Bharti Airtel, was quoted as saying of the solution: ‘CloudAIR gives us the ability to deploy LTE within the same 900MHz frequency alongside GSM and UMTS. This improves our LTE coverage significantly, which means our customers enjoy superior data experience and HD voice quality even in indoor locations.’
