Wireless ISP Starry Internet has announced plans to launch a Beta version of its millimetre wave (mmWave) broadband service in Los Angeles and Washington, DC this year. The operator, which claims to offer 200Mbps download speeds via the 38.2GHz and 38.6GHz bands, currently serves a limited number of apartment buildings in the Boston area.
Future launch cities have been named as New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami and Minneapolis.
In related news, this week Starry unveiled a partnership with semiconductor firm Marvell to work towards the introduction of pre-standard ‘5G’ technology.
