AT&T Mobility is set to offload its entire 600MHz spectrum allocation to LB License Company, an affiliate of Columbia Capital, Fierce Wireless reports, citing a regulatory filing. Columbia Capital is a venture capital firm active in the communications, media, and enterprise IT industries.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, AT&T paid USD910.2 million for 23 licences in the 600MHz Broadcast Television Spectrum Incentive Auction (‘Auction 1002’) staged by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2016/2017.
Despite Auction 1002 generating a total of USD19.318 billion – with 50 bidders placing winning bids for a total of 2,776 licences – only T-Mobile US has launched a commercial 600MHz LTE service to date, switching on its first network in Wyoming in August 2017, and going on to cover 586 towns and cities by year-end.
