US cable giant Charter Communications, which trades as Spectrum, has announced that it has extended its DOCSIS 3.1 network footprint to a number of new markets, following its initial launch in Oahu, Hawaii earlier this month. According to the cableco, the ‘Spectrum Internet Gig’ service is now available to more than 8.8 million consumers across the following eight markets: Austin, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Cincinnati, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; New York City, New York; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; San Antonio, Texas; and Honolulu, Hawaii. Going forward, the service will be extended to additional communities in 2018. The new infrastructure enables end-users to access 1Gbps download speeds, for a monthly fee of USD104.99.
