Proximus launches fibre in Hasselt

20 Dec 2017

Proximus, Belgium’s largest broadband operator by subscribers, has announced the launch of its ‘Fiber for Hasselt’ project. The company began rolling out the fibre-optic broadband network in Hasselt city centre a few weeks ago, increasing Proximus’ fibre footprint to six cities, and the firm is continuing to add new locations to its programme. The company stated that there are already 100 businesses connected to the fibre network, and aims to increase that number to 500 by end-2018. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Proximus began to offer fibre-optic services in 2014 and in December 2016 announced a ten-year, EUR3 billion ‘Fibre for Belgium’ project with the aim of covering more than 85% of businesses and more than 50% of households.
