ASEP reduces charges for number portability

20 Dec 2017

Panamanian telecoms regulator the National Public Services Authority (Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Publicos, ASEP) has announced a revision to the monthly charge that operators must collect from customers to cover the implementation of number portability (NP). In publishing a new resolution – No. 971-ADM – the regulator confirmed that the charge levied on subscribers to both mobile and fixed voice services is to be reduced, from PAB0.03 (USD0.03) to PAB0.02 per month, effective 1 January 2018. In its resolution, the ASEP noted that its decision to reduce the charge was based on a technical and economic analysis in which it had considered the current costs of operating and maintaining the NP systems, as well as an assessment considering the number of active users for both fixed and mobile voice services.
